400,642. Preventing unauthorized .starting and running. DAY, C. J., 119, Fillebrook Road, Leytonstone, London. April 20, 1932, No. 11385. [Class 7 (ii.] To prevent unauthorized actuation of the accelerator pedal on a motor vehicle, a locking element connected to a rod is adapted to be moved into engagement with the pedal or a part operated thereby, the rod or a part connected thereto being engaged by the bolt of a key- or otherwise-operated lock. As shown in Fig. 2, a rod 10 slidably mounted in a casing 11 attached to the underside of the footboard carries a plate 8 adapted to embrace the stem 4 of the accelerator pedal provided with a collar 7. The rod, which is normally kept out of action by a spring 12, is moved into the locking position shown by manipulation of an arm 13 projecting up through a slot in the footboard and is retained in such position by engagement therewith of the bolt 16 of a revolving barrel lock 17. In the modification, shown in Fig. 3, a keyhole slotted plate 19 integral with the slidable rod 22 engages the stem 4 and is retained in the operative position by means of a lock 25 on the dashboard or the side of the vehicle. The Provisional Specification describes an arrangement wherein a pivoted locking element engages the stem of the accelerator pedal.
