Abstract
348,087. Preventing unauthorized use of motor vehicles. SOC. LIBER, 55, Rue de Rivoli, Paris. Oct. 29, 1929, No. 32,833. Convention date, Oct. 30, 1928. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 79 (iii).] Lockable means, (not shown), for preventing the engine of a motor vehicle from being started up, by closing the induction pipe, opening an electric circuit, &c., also actuate means which are optionally effective to cause a radially slidable bolt 5 to lock the steering wheel shaft 9 within its supporting pillar 8. For this purpose, a cam plate 1, which is rotated with the locking means putting the engine out of use, operates, by means of a groove 2, a plunger 4 slidable within the bolt 5, thereby compressing a spring 12 by which the bolt 5 is actuated. Rotary adjustment of a pin 11, passing transversely through slots in the plunger, bolt and the enclosing casing 6 and retained in either of two positions at right-angles by a cross-bar 13 adapted to engage grooves 14 in the casing, determines whether or not the bolt 5 is free to engage a recess in the shaft 9 when the spring 12 is compressed. This effect is obtained by the co-operation of flats 19, 20 in planes at right-angles on the parts of the pin 11 passing through the plunger 4 and the upper part of the casing 6, where the slots are of key-hole formation pointing in opposite directions, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Figs. 1 to 3 show the conditions under which the pin is free to move with the plunger and does not oppose actuation of the bolt 5. If turned through a right-angle, however, the rearrangement of the flats 19, 20 in the key-hole slots, obstructs movement of the pin 11 and thereby, of the bolt 5, though still allowing movement of the plunger 4. Rotation of the pin is only possible in the initial position before the plunger is actuated. A modified form of pin, with the cross-bar 13 incorporated in a spring-pressed head, is described.
