Abstract

400,630. Closures for jars &c. BARON, C. S., 60, Hudson Street, Tiffin, Ohio, U.S.A. April 27, 1932, No. 12159. [Classes 66 and 125 (iii).] In a closure for jars &c. a hinge element, carrying a cover hingedly connected thereto, is retained in position on the container by a flexible metallic collar or band having means for detachably connecting its ends, the band being located about the neck and tensioned by means which involve permanent flexure of the band itself during the tensioning operation. The hinge element 8, hingedly carrying the cover 9 at 12, may be held in place at 21 by a band 5, the ends of which are connected by a slot-and-button device 15, 16, &c., the band being tensioned by permanently flexing a compressible loop 22 by means of pliers &c. In a modification, Fig. 16, the band 81 is permanently flexed at both ends through a ring 87 being tensioned and bent by pliers &c. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the cover 27, hinged at 34 to a hinge-piece 8 held in place by a band 11, is firmly held in the closed position by a toggle joint 40, 50, the portion 50 being formed as a bail pivoted at 45 to the cover 27, the middle of the bail being flattened and held to the portion 40 by an ornamental covering-plate 55. A gasket 29 may be inserted and the rim 25 of the jar &c. may be milled to prevent the rolling of the gasket.
