Abstract

1451890 Closures for collapsible containers UNILEVER Ltd 1 Nov 1973 [7 Aug 1972] 36803/72 Heading B8T A container comprises a nozzle 1 and a closure 6, the closure being a single-piece moulding in the form of a stirrup having two legs 7 pivotably attached to the nozzle, e.g. by hinge straps of plastics material or by diametrically opposed trunnions disposed on the closure or, as shown, on the nozzle, so that the closure pivots with a wiping action from an open position to a sealing position. Correct seating and sealing is assisted by an internal dome 9, a pair of webs 10 on the closure locating in respective slots (5, Fig. 3, not shown) on the nozzle, an annular sealing V-projection and groove (not shown), and residual tension in the legs of the stirrup. The closure and nozzle may be moulded in one piece including a frangible link and then separated before being rejoined at the trunnions to provide pivoting. In an alternative construction (Fig. 4, not shown) the open hook form of stirrup leg shown is replaced by a closed form in which an enlarged hole can slip over the trunnions and a connected smaller hole can grip the trunnions to give secure connection.
