Abstract
400,621. Safety razors. GILLETTE SAFETY RAZOR CO., 15, West 1st Street, Boston, U.S.A. April 26, 1932, No. 12004. Convention date, Jan. 19. [Class 30.] The clamping-plate of a safety razor of the usual transversely-flexed clamped-blade type is made in two sections 24 pivoted to the longitudinal sides of the guard-plate 10. The clamping sections 24 have side arms 28 integral with, or secured to, spindles 16 journalled in side extensions 14 of the guard, and the spindles have notched guard teeth 22 along one side so that the guard teeth pivot away from the blade together with the clamping sections. The spindles 16 have worm teeth 20 engaging a worm 38 rotatable, to move the sections 24 into clamping position, Fig. 6, or release position, Figs. 4 and 7, by means of an integral sleeve 36 on a headed handle stem 32. The worm gearing is irreversible and the blade 30 is transversely flexed over fulcrum edges of the guard-plate. Cut-away blade corners accommodate the side arms 28 of the clamping sections, and the slotted blade is located by diamond-shaped pins on the guard which are received in recesses in the clamping sections. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that the blade may be clamped without flexure. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
