Abstract

400,620. Earth-devices. HEDGES, K. W., 10, Cranley Place, South Kensington, London. April 25, 1932, No. 11875. [Class 36.] The soil surrounding an earthdevice is fed with rain water from a gully &c., the water being passed through a dirttrap comprising a perforated hollow member adapted to stand in a vessel which conducts the water to the earthdevice and in which dirt &c. contained in the water is trapped. In the construction shown, a perforated hollow conical member d stands in a vessel a which is connected to the upper end of an earth-tube b and which is sunk level with a gulley supplying water to tube b. The interior of the vessel a communicates with the tube b in order that water entering the vessel may find its way to the soil surrounding the tube. The member d has a flanged base d<2> which is a sliding fit in the vessel a and on which dirt contained in the water fed to the vessel collects. The base d<2> may be raised on lugs d<3>. A grating e may cover the vessel a to prevent the entry of stones and leaves. In a modified construction the vessel a is connected to a pipe which conveys water to a plate-earth.
