[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 3, 1933.] [Class 33.] A device for incorporation in a drainage system to prevent back flow, comprises a casing with an inlet and outlet, an annular seating applied to the inlet, a floating ball within the casing and two inwardly-projecting ribs arranged obliquely upon the wall of the casing and above the ball for the purpose of guiding it towards the seating. The casing may also be provided with ribs beneath the ball on which it rests during normal conditions. In a form for use with a branch conduit opening into a main conduit, Figs. 1 and 2, the casing is shaped as shown to provide upper and lower ribs a<1>, b<1>, and lateral chambers h and a lower chamber a for the free passage of floating matter. The seating is in the form of an inclined annular rim d with a sharp edge. The ribs a<1> are downwardly curved at the end remote from the seating to limit the travel of the ball s, whilst the ribs b<1> do not extend to the wall opposite the seating. The upper part of the casing may be in the form of a removable cover. In another form, Fig. 4, the device forms part of a gulley trap, the inlet of the gulley being constituted by a cylindrical rotatable member having a number of pipe-ends, a sludge collector being provided. In another form the seating is secured to the inlet grating and a relief-pipe, which may also serve as an additional inlet, is provided. Specification 20229 /05, [Class 33], is referred to.
