Description
Dec. 22, 1936. c. MALLET SANITARY APPLIANCE Filed Dec. 4, 1935 7 1541 .1 (Faum '1.
Charles Mal le't.
' mum INYENTOK,
Patented Dec. 22, 1936 FFICE SANITARY APPLIANCE Application December 4, 1935, Serial No. 52,789 In France December 17, 1934 3 Claims.
The present invention relates to improvements in sanitary appliances such as wash basins.
The object of the invention is to avoid any overflowing of the water, whatever be the fluctuations of the mass of Water, the fluctuations arising from movements imparted to the water by the user or to movements of the wash basin itself when it is mounted upon a movable support, such as a railway vehicle, ships cabin and the like.
A sanitary appliance such as a wash basin which permits the above mentioned objects to be attained, possesses the characteristic features which appear from the following description and particularly from the claims appended to this description.
A wash basin in accordance with the preferred form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the wash basin.
Figure 2 is a section taken along the line 22 in Figure 1.
Figure 3- is a section taken along the line 3-3 in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a similar section to that shown in Figure 3, but shows the cover raised.
This wash basin comprises a basin l, the base of which is pierced with an aperture 2, and is connected to the waste pipe 3. A valve l con- 30 trolled from above the wash basin by a handle 5 and a rod 6 enables the basin i to be emptied.
A semi-annular space i is provided all round the periphery of the basin. This space is obtained by means of a wall 3 rigid with the wall 35 I of the basin 8, the upper edge 8 of this wall being higher than the upper edge l of the wall of the basin l.
The semi-annular space communicates with a single overflow duct 9 which is connected to the waste pipe 3.
With this arrangement, when the water is thrown out of the basin l as a result of the rocking of this basin (Figure 3), this water flows over the wall I of the basin I, which forms a peripheral weir, and passes to the overflow duct 9.
There is therefore no risk of water being thrown out of the wash basin, however much the latter may rock.
The above described wash basin is completed by a cover It, which covers the semi-circular space 1, and prevents water from being thrown out of the basin I when the wash basin rocks very considerably.
According to another feature of the invention, the cover i0 is mounted in a removable manner upon the wall 8. For example, the cover it is pivoted upon the body of the wash basin by means of a hinge l2 (Figures 3 and 4).
In this way the cover can be raised easily after the device for actuating the waste valve 5 has been removed from the wash basin (Figure 4). It is thus easy to reach the annular space 1 and the overflow duct 9 so that these parts can be cleaned with ease over their whole surface.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a sanitary appliance such as a wash basin, a basin, an overflow comprising a peripheral weir provided over the whole periphery of the basin, and adapted to receive water thrown from this basin, a removable cover covering the overflow comprising the peripheral weir, a hinge connecting the removable cover to the basin.
2. In a sanitary appliance such as a wash basin, a basin, a peripheral outlet channel which is wide open at the top and disposed about the entire circumference of said basin at the upper portion thereof, said channel receiving the water flowing from above the border of the basin, discharging means communicating with the said peripheral channel, a removable cover for closing said peripheral channel and adapted to expose the entire surface of said peripheral channel after removal thereof for the purpose of facilitating cleaning of said channel.
3. In a sanitary appliance such as a wash basin, an integral apparatus body comprising a basin, a peripheral outlet channel, the latter being wide open at the top and disposed about the entire circumference of said basin at the upper portion thereof and receiving the water flowing down from above the border of said basin, discharging means communicating with said peripheral channel; a cover removably mounted upon said apparatus body, said cover serving to cover the said peripheral channel and exposing the entire surface thereof after removal of said cover for purposes of cleaning.
CHARLES MALLET.
