Abstract
400,034. Extracting sugar. VASSEUX, A. E., 6, Rue de l'Epinette, St-Mande. Seine, France. Jan. 17, 1933, No. 1527. [Class 127.] Sugar is extracted from raw materials such as beet or sugar cane in a diffusion battery each diffuser of which is provided, in addition to the usual piping for conveying the juices from one diffuser to the next, with an auxiliary siphon-like pipe, one limb A of which depends from the lower end of the diffuser below the level of a strainer D therein, the other limb B communicating with the top of the diffuser. An intensive auxiliary circulation of the juices is effected by injecting steam into the pipe AB through an injector V. Instead of steam, other gases such as compressed air, carbon dioxide, or sulphur dioxide can be injected under pressure into the pipe AB at any suitable point. An exhaust piping C for air and gases is provided on each diffuser, leading to a header which returns the juice contained in the foam produced to the usual measuring vats.
