[Class 80 (ii).] A clutch device to enable the driving shaft 13 of the web-feeding, cutting, &c. devices to be uncoupled from the driving-shaft 1 of an intaglio printing-cylinder when desired and recoupled in correct register, comprises a member 15 interposed between two coupling members 3, 14 and resiliently connected to the member 14, the member 3 being adapted to be coupled to the member 15 by a registering clutchelement, and to the member 14 by driving clutch-elements. The members 3, 14 are fixed to the shafts 1, 13 respectively and the member 15 is rotatably mounted on the shaft 13 and connected to the member 14 by springs 27 extending between studs 25, 26. Pivoted spring-pressed clutch-elements 4, 5, 6 are mounted on the member 3 and can be moved to uncoupling position, as shown in Fig. 1, by a lever-operated sleeve 28. When the elements 4, 5, 6 are released by the sleeve to couple the stationary shaft 13 to the rotating shaft 1, the short element 4 drops into deep slots 16, 17 in the members 3, 15 when the slots register, thus causing the member 15 to be rotated relatively to the member 14 until shallow slots 18 .. 23 in the members 3, 14, 15 are in register when the elements 5, 6 drop into the slots and couple the shafts 1, 13. The springs 27 cause the shaft 13 to be started without shock, and stops 29 .. 32 on the members 14, 15 limit the relative movement between the members to that necessary for the slots to register. The member 3 may be dispensed with if some other support is provided on the shaft for the clutch-elements 4, 5, 6. The coupling may be operated with the shaft 13 as the driving shaft. Also, by providing additional grooves 17, 19, 21, additional coupling positions for each revolution may be obtained. Instead of the members 14, 15, 16 being in disc form as shown, they may be formed as concentric cylinders and the clutch-elements adapted to engage the edges of the cylinders.
