Abstract

399,780. Feeding webs. NEUERBURG'SCHE VERWALTUNGS-GES., 19, Bruckenstrasse, Dischhaus, Cologne, Germany. Jan. 7, 1932, No. 544. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 19, 1932]. [Class 100 (i).] In a continuous-rod cigarette-making machine the end of the web 2<1> of a reserve spool 2 of cigarette paper is supported on a roller 4 which is carried by a lever 6 and arranged adjacent to a feed roller 7 of the running web 1<1>. When the running web is nearly exhausted the lever 6 is operated by hand, foot, or automatically to press the webs together. The webs may be united by causing a gumming apparatus operated by the lever 6 to apply a strip of gum to the web 2<1>, or by providing the rollers 4, 7 with grooves, flutings, or teeth to crimp the webs together. A knife 12 carried by a vertical pivot 11 has a bent end 10 normally engaging a socket in the end of a rod 9 pivoted to the lever 6 and when this lever is operated the knife is released and turned by a spring 13 to sever the expiring web against a fixed knife 14.
