Abstract
399,746. Surface condensers. HUMPHREYS & GLASGOW, Ltd. and MORGAN, G. H., Humglas House, Carlisle Place, London. May 2, 1933, No. 12794. [Class 64 (iii).] In a water-cooled gas condenser comprising upper and lower water spaces f, g, and an intermediate gas passage h, the water spaces are connected by tubes n and the gas passage is formed as a volute by walls h<1>, h<2> extending between the gas inlet pipe c to an inner wall b and between the inner wall to the outer wall a respectively. The water spaces f, g are divided into compartments by partitions i, m arranged in staggered relationship. The water is constrained to flow by the partitions in a zig-zag manner, down then up the tubes and in a general countercurrent direction to the gas flow in the volute passage. The cooling liquid is admitted and discharged from the upper water space which may be easily opened for cleaning the tubes.
