Abstract

399,511. Rearing-appliances. LEEDS INDUSTRIAL CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY, Ltd. and JEFFREYS, R., 10, Albion Street, Leeds. April 6, 1932, No. 9828. [Class 5 (ii).] A brooder comprises a chick compartment 1 surmounted by a domed or conical heatconserving chamber 7 through which passes a vertical steam-outlet and water-inlet pipe 8 from a hot water tank 6 in the upper part of the chick compartment, heating fluid being circulated from an external lamp 3 by means of a pipe 4 passing through the hot water tank, the heat conserving chamber 7 containing asbestos wool or other non-conducting packing and the pipe 8 terminating in a double conical outlet 9. The wall 10 of the chick compartment is mounted on adjustable legs 11 and carries depending felt flaps 12, a removable guard 13 being provided to confine the chicks at night. The pipe 4 has a hot air inlet 5 over the lamp 3, which is accommodated in an annexe 2 provided with a hinged apertured wall 14, and at the other end is provided with a perforated end piece to avoid back draughts ; alternatively, the pipe 4 may be contracted where it leaves the tank 7, the contracted portion extending beyond the brooder to terminate in a vertical outlet. According to the Provisional Specification, the brooder is constructed mainly of tinplate.
