To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Joan C. Nrorrous, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Blue Mound, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Im roved Heater for Brooders, of which the follg g is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion.
The invention relates to poultry culture, and its object is to provide a new and improved heater for brooders, arranged to produce aproper heating of the air supplied to the young, to cause moistening of the eated air, and to allow convenient removal of the heater from the brooder, whenever it is desired to do so, for cleaning, repairing or other pu sese invention consists of novel features and arts and combinations of the same, whic will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate correspending parts in both views.
Figure I is a sectionalside elevation of the improvement, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, showing the brooder in section.
The broader A in the form of a suitable box is provided a distance above its lottom with a hover board B, from the sides of which de pend aprons C of cloth or other suitable fabric, to permit the cling to readily pass under the hover board h bottom of the breeder A is provided at or near its middle with an opening for the reception of the lower end D of a rim D, extend a suitable distance up into the breeder an provided with an annular retaining flange 1) testing on the upper surface of the bottom of the broader A. anti-ally into the rim D extends a burner E, of an approved construction, and onto the rim l) ts or telescopes a heating drum F provided at its sides with u wardly and outwardly extendin tubes F" leading to a heat-distributing amber G, preferably made ring-shape and provided at the front and rear with outlet pipes H, exten first upwardly through the hover board and then transversely, to connect with telescoping tubes H attached to the front and rear of the broader A and leading to the outside thereof, so as to conduct the smoke and gases from the distributing chamto the top thereof. The outer end of I the pipe 1 is preferably protected by a suitable hood I, to prevent dust and the like from ussiug with the air into the air-heating chain or I.
On top of the air-heating chamber I is set a moisture pan J for containing water, and provided with a removable top J having its central opening J for the escape of the moisture or vapor produced by evaporating the water contained in the pan J, and which water is heated by the heat of the heated air in the chamber 1. The bottom of the pan J I is provided with on u wardly-extending tube J, forming an out ct for the air-heating chamber I and extending through the outlet opening J from the side wall of which it is spaced to allow the escape of moisture or vapor close to the esca of the heated air from the chamber 1. X: illustrated in the drawings the heat-distributing chamber G surrounds the moisture pan J but is spaced from the same to allow pro or circulation of the air in the breeder A clow the hover board B. It will also be noticed by reference to Fig. 1 that the tops of the heat-distributing chamberG and the pond are a distance below the hover board B, so that the moistened air passes into the breeder A immediately below the hover board B, from which the air is distributed to the space surrounding the heater and inclosed by the aprons C which latter terminate a distance from the bottom of the breeder A, to allow heated air to rise in the broader outside of the aprons C and the hover boa-rd B.
By the arrangement described the heater groper can be readily removed from the rim whenever it is desired to clean or repair the heater, and by having the cover J removable, the pan J can be readily filled with water whenever necessary. By the use of the telescoping pipes H, H and 1, I, the heater can be readily fitted to breeders of erent sizes. It Will also be seen that by combustion from the burner E are utiiized to the fullest advantage and are conductedto the outside of the brooder without dangei'l of mingling with the heated air inside of the broader; and by extending thetubes H up throu h the hover' board B, the air above. the hover oardB is heated, that is, heated air is bad above the heads of the young where it is most needed.
'Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLe'tters Batent:
1. A heater for brooders, comprising a heating drum, an airj heating chamber surmounted on the said heating drum, and provided with an inlet extendingoto the outside of the breeder, amoisture pan for containing water mounted on top of thesaid air-heating chamber and provided with a cover having a the said aira central outlet excentral outlet for the moisture, heating chamber having tending through the moisture pan and the cover outlet.
2. A heater for brooders, comprising a heating drum, an air heating chamber surmounted on the said heating drum, and provided with an inlet extending to the outside of the brooder, a moisture an for containing water mounted on to of the said air-heating chamber, and provi ed with a cover having a central outlet for the moisture, the said air-heating chamber having an outlet extending through the cover outlet, an annular heat-distributing chamber having anoutlet extending to the outside of the broodcr, and a connection between the said heating drum and the said heat-distributing chamber.
3. A heater for broodcrs, comprising a heating drum, an air-heating chamber surmounted on the said heating drum and providedwith an inlet extending to the outside of the brooder, a moisture an for containing water mounted on top of t c said air-heating chamber and provided with a cover having a central outlet for the moisture, the said air-heating chamber having an outlet extending through the cover outlet, an annular heat-distributing chamber having)an outlet extending to the outside of the rooder, and a connection between the said heating drum and the said-heat-distributing chamber, the latter surrounding the said water F 4; A heater for brooders, comprising a heating drum, an air-heating chambersurmounted onthe said heating drum, and provided with an inlet extending to the outside of the brooder, a moisture pan for containing,

The combination with a brooder, of a heating drum in thebrooder, an air-heatin of the heating drum an having an inlet for fresh air and an. outlet opening into the brooder, an annular heat distributing chamber connected with the heating'drum and having an outlet leading to-the outside of the brooder, and a moisture pan for containin of the air heating c iamber, the said moisture pan being surrounded by the heat distributmg chamber.
6. The combination with a brooder, of a heater comprising a heating drum removably held on the bottom of the said brooder, an air heating chamber on to of the said drum and prov ded-with an i at for fresh air, a moisture pan for containing water mounted on top of the air heating chamber, the said pan and air heating chamber having outlets opening within the brooder, and an annular heatdistributing chamber surrounding the said moisture pan and communicating with the heating drum, the said annular chamber being provided withoutlcts extending to the outside of the brooder.
7. The combination with a brooder, ofa heater comprising a heating drum removably held on the bottom of the said brooder, an air heating chamber on top of the said drum and provided with an inlet pipe for fresh air formed in telescoping sections, a moisture pan for containing water mounted on said air heating chamber, the said moisture an and air heating chamber communicating with the interior of the brooder, and a heat distributing chamber having inlet pi es leading from the heating drum, and out et pipes formed in telescoping sections and leading to the outside of the brooder.
