Abstract
398,942. Fusible cut-outs; two-part couplings. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd. and METCALF, A. W., Hamilton House, Victoria Embankment, London. April 29, 1932, Nos. 12334 and 33117. [Class 38 (i).] A fusible strip of, say, copper is cut completely through and at the break is inserted a metal of lower melting-point, the strip also being reduced in width at one or both sides of the insertion. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the strip is bent a number of times and is cut through at 5 to receive the insertion and is reduced at both sides of the cut to form necks 6. In order to protect the insertion from granular packing, if employed, it may be enclosed by a sleeve 10 or received in a separate chamber in the casing. Fig. 3 shows an assemblage of two fuses back to back, the strips being held in position by an insulating member 8 and removable end-pieces 9. In the form shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the strip is rectilinear and is received in slots 16 in the walls of a chamber 12 protecting the insertion from the packing 15. Fig. 8 illustrates another arrangement wherein the two strips are laid in a. two-part box 19 and the insertions are screened by the superposition of a member having walls 23, 24 and slid into place. The external contacts 26 are received between the ends of the strips pressed into contact by C-springs expanded by screwed rods. Specification 372,528 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
