Abstract
398,923. Releasing fireproof shutters. POLLARD & CO., Ltd., E. and POLLARD, H. E., 159, St. John Street, London. April 2, 1932, Nos. 9542 and 34041. [Class 47 (ii).] A fireproof roller-shutter of the spring- counterbalanced type is closed by a weight when the latter is released by the fusion of a fusible link, the weight being dislodged automatically during the final closing movement of the shutter. The weight C normally is supported by a bell-crank lever D retained by a cord E and fusible link E<1>. When the link melts, the weight falls and is guided by a guideway G and pin F on to the bottom rail A of the shutter, where its weight closes the shutters. When the latter is nearly closed, a surface H on the guideway G engages a projection C<2> on the weight to remove the latter from the shutter. In a modification, the weight is in the form of a bar pivoted at one end and supported at the other by the fusible link. When the latter melts, the bar swings down and engages the lower rail of the shutter. In modifications of this latter arrangement, suitable for long, narrow shutters, the bar is in two hinged parts. When the bar is released, one part first engages the rail of the shutter, and, subsequently, the second part turns about a fulcrum to engage the rail.
