Abstract

425,457. Preventing fires. POLLARD & CO., Ltd., E., and POLLARD, H. E., 159, St. John Street, Clerkenwell, London. Sept. 19, 1934, No. 26904. [Class 47 (ii)] Automatic means for closing a counterbalanced roller shutter in case of fire by adding an overbalancing weight to the bottom bar of the shutter, comprises a frame L carrying guide rods B, B<1> on which is slidable a weight A carrying depending rods C, C<1>. The latter have conical portions C<3> which normally are engaged by notched bell-crank levers E, E<1> held stationary by wires H, H<1> with a fusible joint D. Fusion of the link D releases the weight A, descent of which causes the rods C, C' to engage the bottom bar of the shutter, not shown, and so initiate closure of the latter. Before the shutter is fully closed, the weight is removed from it by engagement with the flange L<1> of the frame L. The speed of descent of the shutter can be varied by varying the length of the ends C<3> or the mass of the weight A.
