Abstract

471,941. Door-operating devices. DENNISON, KETT, & CO., Ltd., and TEALE, W. E. March 27, 1936, No. 9187. [Classes 47 (i) and 47 (ii)] In an arrangement for closing or opening a door, gate, or the like automatically in case of fire, which, however, permits manual operation of the door in normal circumstances, the door 10 is mounted to slide on a substantially horizontal track 11 and is provided with an apertured plate 17. A cable 18 including a fusible link 23 is anchored at 22, carries a collar 24 in rear of the plate 17, is threaded through the plate, and carries a weight 19 at its free end. If the link 23 melts, the weight 19 pulls the collar 24 against the plate 17, and so pulls the door across the doorway 16. In a modification, the cable 18 may normally be slack, the weight 19, or an equivalent spring drum, being held inoperative by the fusible link. The door-operating mechanism may be applied to pairs of doors, two plates 17 and collars 24 being provided.
