Abstract

398,902. Rotary pumps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and WHITAKER, F. P., 237, Clifton Road, Rugby. March 24, 1932, No. 8880. [Class 110 (ii).] The passage between a vacuum pump 2 such as an oil-sealed rotary pump, and a chamber to be evacuated is controlled by a valve 10 operated through links 9, 8 from a member 6 of a fluid clutch. This member is biassed towards the closing position of the valve by a spring 7 and is moved to open the valve by liquid in which it is immersed, set in rotation by a member 5 mounted on the pump shaft or otherwise moved at a rate proportional to the pump speed.
