Abstract

398,874. Hair-waving appliances. ROSE, A. G. and ROSE BROS. (GAINS. BOROUGH), Ltd., Albion Works, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. March 23, 1932, No. 8589. [Class 131.] A machine of the kind in which an intermittently moving conveyer carries spaced wrappers to a number of working stations is employed for making hair-waving sachets, adhesive being applied to the wrapper at the first station, an inset being placed in position at the second station, and the wrapper and inset being folded together at the third station. The inset may consist of a coupon or label, or a strip of oiled paper, cardboard or the like. The adhesive serves both to hold the inset in position and to secure the wrapper. The partially completed package as it is fed to the conveyer at station A comprises an outer wrapper 17 gummed to and folded over a sheet 19 and having an extending portion 21 within which a cotton pad is folded. The wrapper 17 is gripped by jaws 14. At station B, gum is applied at the appropriate points 33 of the portion 21, while at station C, an inset 35 is removed from a magazine by a suction nozzle in the manner described in Specification 209,519, [Class 100 (i), Feeding and delivery webs &c.], and is placed on the gummed portion 21, pressure being applied to ensure adhesion. Alternatively the insets may be cut from a continuous web. At station D, the end portion 23 is folded over the pad-containing portion 21 and both are folded over the connecting portion, and the completed sachet is fed to the discharge station E.
