Abstract

398,088. Holders for rolls of tape &c. CARPENTER, W. M. and SHAW, A. P., 22, Hamilton Square, Birkenhead. May 31, 1932, No. 2018/33. Divided on 397,627. [Class 18.] , A holder or case for rolls of tape or similar material comprises a cylindrical body with an opening 8 parallel to its axis, and normally shrouded by a pivoted guard plate which has an abutment co-operating with a surface 13 on the body displaced away from the cutting edge of the knife blade mounted on the body. The casing is of wood, cardboard, metal or material such as a phenolformaldehyde condensation product and is formed of two end caps 1, one of which has a radial window 3, and a cylindrical portion 4. Projections 5 on the end caps are provided to position the parts which are kept together by a central bolt or flanged tube 19. Bosses 6 on the end caps form bearing surfaces for the spool 7, and the tape passes through the slot 8 in the body 4, adjacent the pivot 9 of a guard 10, which has a downwardly projecting abutment 11 and a lip 12. A knife blade 15 is secured in a slot 14 by a peg 16. In use the withdrawn tape 17 is clamped between the abutment 11 and the surface of the casing and is cut by the knife blade. On raising the flap 10, the free end of the tap is then easily obtained. In a modified form the blade is arranged radially of the holder and is inclined so that the tape may be sheared between it and the abutment on the guard.
