Abstract
398,085. Cable joints. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Eby, E. De W. ; 100, Holmes Road, Pittsfield, U.S.A.) Jan. 19, 1933, No. 1860. Convention date, Jan. 19, 1932. [Class 38 (i).] A connector 9 for oil-filled cables 5 is connected to an oil reservoir by means of one or more long tubes 27 of flexible insulating material that are wound in a helix within the tape 16 insulating the joint. The tube, which may be of alkyd resin, has a ferrule at each end, one end being cemented in an opening 25 in the connector 9 and the other end being secured in a header 31 from which a pipe 35 leads to the reservoir. The slack of the tube outside the shield 17 allows the casing 18 to. be slid back to expose the joint. Where a channel 11 through the connector allows oil to pass from one cable section to another, taps 12 are provided for closing the connection during flushing &c. Where adjacent sections are not so connected a second tube 27 or set of tubes is associated with the adjacent cable section. Specification 350,317, [Group XXIX], is referred to.
