Abstract

398,005. Protective devices for dynamos. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London, CALVERLEY, J. E., Crescent Road, Rowley Park, and NEWMAN, S. E., 45, Rowley Grove, both in Stafford. July 5, 1932, No. 18992. [Class 35.] An h.t. dynamoelectric generator 1 designed, as by a decompounding winding 3, to have a low termina voltage on short circuit and thus adapted to remair connected to its load, is placed ir circuit with overload-responsive means 4 operable to energize the trip-coil 11 of a circuit-breaker 5 which first inserts a discharge resistance 6 and then disconnects the field winding 2. Alternatively, the breaker may have a high resistance connected across its contacts before opening. In. Fig. 2, a motor 8 may be operated to insert all the resistance 7 and so reduce the short-circuit to a safe value. If desired, a field circuit-breaker, such as 5 in Fig. 1, may be operated subsequently to insertion of resistance 7. Both arrangements may be made self-restoring on return of relay 4 after the short-circuit has disappeared, provided the field circuit is not broken.
