Abstract

375,839. Automatic circuit-breakers : preventing sparking. STOTZ-KONTAKT GES., (formerly STOTZ GES. ABT. DER BROWN, BOVERI, ET CIE), Voltastrasse, Neckarau, Mannheim, Germany. March 4, 1931, No. 6781. Convention date, March 4, 1930. [Class 38 (v).] A circuit-breaker for indoor installation with overload release and electromagnetic blowout means, has at least two completely separate break-points controlled by a single switch gear, which is provided with a setting device permitting contact to be broken simultaneously or in predetermined sequence, the circuitbreaker as a whole being contained within a single casing. As shown in the Figure, an electromagnetic overload coil 6, and a thermal release 7 are arranged to trip the circuitbreaker, the order in which the break-points 2 .. 5 and 10 .. 13 open being determined by a setting device 22. The coil 6 is arranged to act as a blow-out magnet on the contacts 2 .. 5. The break-points 2 .. 5 and 10 .. 13 may be connected in series or parallel, and the coils 6, 7 may be both in the same circuit 1, 8, or one may be in the circuit 1, 8, and the other in the circuit 9, 14. With the circuits 1, 8, and 9, 14 in series, the break 2 .. 5 opens first, but with the circuits in parallel the order is vice versa. With the circuits in series the coil 6, acting only as a blow-out magnet for the break 2 .. 5, may be connected across the break 10 .. 13, the thermal release 7 opening the break 10 .. 13 first. The coils 6, 7 may each have two parts, one part of each being in both of the circuits 1, 8, and 9, 14.
