Abstract
439,716. Protective cut-out arrangements. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Oct. 19, 1934, No. 29984. Convention date, Oct. 19, 1933. [Class 38 (v)] A protective arrangement for a three-phase circuit, which is connected to a second threephase circuit through transforming means comprising windings connected in star to each of the circuits and an intermediate closed delta winding, the windings connected to one of the circuits being distributed windings, comprises a relay connected to be energized in accordance with the current in the earth connection of one of the windings for effecting opening of circuit-interrupting means connected in one or both of the circuits. The circuit 3, which may be a high-voltage feeder, is connected to the circuit 4, which may be a low-voltage distribution network fed from other sources, through a transformer having star-connected windings 8 and an earthed neutral 11, mesh-connected windings 10 and distributed star-connected windings 9 with earthed neutral 12. Due to this distributed arrangement of windings 9 earth-fault currents flowing in one set of windings do not affect the earth connection of the other set. Relay 15 will therefore only respond to earth-faults in feeder 3 or windings 8 and operates to open breaker 7 to prevent reverse-power flow from the net into the feeder. If it is desired to open breaker 7 for earth faults in the windings 9 or circuit 4, a relay 17 in the earth connection of windings 9 is provided and is unaffected by faults in feeder 3. When a breaker 6 is provided in the latter, this may also be adapted for tripping by either relay in the manner shown or, by omitting the connection X, a selective action is obtained. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), relay 15 is energized on earth fault in feeder 3 or windings 8 by zero-phase sequence currents in windings 10, and each relay 15, 17 operates only its associated breaker.
