Abstract
397,119. Gramophone records. WIMMERSPERG, EUGEN, FREIHERR VON, 5, Rue de Langeac, Paris. Feb. 15, 1932, No. 4381. [Class 40 (ii).] A method of making gramophone and like records consists in impressing the sound record proper under heat and pressure on to a thin dried sheet comprising fibrous material permeated with an artificial resin, and thereafter mounting the sheet when cold upon a baseboard. The base-board may consist of pasteboard, cardboard, thick paper or wood. The sound record sheet, which is secured to the baseboard by a water glass solution, may consist of tissue paper, silk paper or the like impregnated with a mixture of resorcinol, #-naphthol, formaldehyde, and alcohol, together with a catalyst such as sodium sulphate. If desired, the sound record sheet may be provided, during the pressure operation, with a backing of untreated paper, such as glazed or parchment paper, and two such backed sheets may be secured to the opposite sides of a base-board in order to form a double-sided record. The sheets on opposite sides of the base-board are so disposed that there is no tendency for distortion of the completed record. When the record sheet is formed of material, such as tissue paper, which is translucent or is rendered translucent by the permeating material, the surface of the base-board may be provided with printed advertising or similar matter. During the pressure operation, the record sheet is supported by a paste-board sheet disposed on the press-table.
