[Class 79 (iii).] Radially slidable spring- pressed elements 4, 6 tend to lock together relatively rotary members such as the steering shaft 1 of a motor vehicle or cycle to its fixed supporting column 2, Fig. 1, or the hubs 2a, 2b, of manual controlling devices on a steering shaft 1, Fig. 4, the inner elements 4 being formed with feelers or projections 5 passing through restricted slots into a central bore so that the locking tendency may be nullified by insertion of a grooved key 3. In securing a pair of control devices, such as fuel and ignition control levers, to a steering shaft, the hubs or bosses thereof may be arranged concentrically, Fig. 3 (not shown), or side-by-side, Fig. 4. In the latter case, the locking elements 6 of the adjacent hubs conjointly co-operate with single inner elements 4.
