Abstract
396,828. Pneumatic separating. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and RAY, A., c/o Sneyd Collieries, Ltd., Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. Feb. 19, 1932, No. 5026. [Class 117.] In apparatus for separating dust and small particles from granular materials such as coals of the kind in which the materials fall through one or more transversely moving air currents, the nozzle 8 by which the air current is directed against the falling material converges to a narrow slot and is divided by one or more plates into a plurality of separate sections with the object of delivering the air in a high velocity jet which is not easily deflected and at the same time is uniformly distributed. Alternatively, a number of nozzles may be arranged in a row. The material under treatment is delivered on to a shelf 7 and falls in front of the air nozzles under the retarding effect of a curtain of chains 9. One or more partition plates may be provided to divide the stream of material into sections. A number of shelves 12 receive the falling material to prevent breakage and deliver it to the hopper 11. The top plate 19 of the nozzle may be adjustably pivoted at 20 to permit variation of the width thereof. The separator is enclosed in a casing 1 connected to a suction pipe 10 which draws away a greater volume of air than enters through the nozzle 8 thereby inducing air into the separator through an auxiliary inlet 18 and at the feeding and discharging points.
