Abstract

395,994. Fire-extinguishing. NEVILLE, J. A., Fern Royd, Dovecote Road, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. April 16, 1932, No. 6723/33. Divided on 395,826. [Class 47 (ii).] A device for ejecting fluids under pressure of the kind comprising a collapsable vessel adapted to be collapsed by fluid pressure applied to its exterior, comprises a rigid outer casing 10 within which is a collapsable vessel 11 which has a discharge passage 12 leading to the exterior of the casing and provided with a non- return valve 14. Compressed gas for collapsing the vessel 11 is supplied from a suitable source to the interior of the casing by an inlet 13. The vessel 11 may be a rubber bag, but preferably consists of a tube of thin sheet metal having a screw cap 18. The upper end of the vessel is soldered to a dished cover 17 of the casing, and the cap 18 preferably is soldered to the bottom 19, a hole being formed in the bottom for this purpose. The vessel may be refilled after use through the passage 12, but it is preferred to supply the casing and vessel complete in refill form, the passages 12, 13 being closed by caps 22 until the device is taken into use. The vessel is ribbed for strength or is wrapped in ribbed cardboard 21. In a modification, the collapsable vessel is supported at its lower end in a tray suspended in the casing by a spring. In a fireextinguishing installation, the passage 12 is connected to distributing pipes and the passage 13 to a reservoir for compressed air, admission of which to the casing is controlled by a manual, thermal, or impact-operated valve.
