Abstract
395,839. Amusement apparatus. PYNE, E. G., 99, Rectory Road, Beckenham, Kent. May 18, 1932, No. 14135. [Class 132 (i).] Amusement apparatus of the kind in which an electrically-driven vehicle travels over a conductive surface and has its motor connected by a trolley-arm with an overhead wirenetting conductor is characterized in that front and rear dirigible wheels are provided and one of them is connected to a steering column, the two wheels being mounted on the longitudinal centre line of the vehicle and interconnected for positive transmission of steering motion from one wheel to the other to produce a uniformly responsive steering motion of one wheel relatively to the other for all steering movements. As shown, the steering fork 5, to which the steering wheel is connected by a universal joint, carries the front steering wheel 6. On the upper side of the baseplate 3 is an electric motor 10 driving a sprocket 13 by chain and sprocket drive, the wheel 13 being mounted on a shaft 14 supported below the baseplate 3 and carrying a sprocket 18 driving a sprocket 19 on the shaft 15 carrying the rear steering wheel by means of a chain 18a. The sprocket 13 is loose on the shaft 14 but connected thereto by a spring-loaded friction clutch 14a. The rear wheel shaft 15 is held at one end by a plummer block 20 and at the other by a bracket 21 supporting part of a universal coupling 21a between the shaft 15 and an axle 15a carrying the rear steering wheel 9. The axle 15a carries a roller 37 running on a quadrant 38. To the arms 22 of the bracket 21 are pivoted arms 24 of a bearing housing 26. The front fork 5 has a projection 5a to which is connected one end of a link 34, the other end of which is attached to a link 35 attached to a lug 36 integral with one arm 24. Stops 29 to limit the turning movement may be provided. Idler wheels 33 coaxial with the shaft 15 are carried on the plate 3.
