[Class 27.] In coin-freed vending-apparatus of the kind in which an article is obtainable from any one of a plurality of piles by the actuation of the respective drawer after a coin has been inserted in a common slot, the remaining drawers being automatically locked by the action of a plurality of aligned locking bars 6, 7 in conjunction with the wedge-like action of " splitters " 4, 5 carried beneath the drawers 2, 3. fraudulent actuation is prevented by the provision of one or more auxiliary systems of locking bars 8, 9 between the splitters and the normal locking bars. As in the known arrangement, the series or abutting bars 6, 7 are spring-urged to the right and freed by the insertion of a coin for motion to the left, thus enabling, say, the splitter 4 on the drawer 2 to be brought into contact with the chamfered edge 10 of the bar 6, pressing this bar and those abutting against it to the left as the splitter passes through, and locking the bar 7 and those abutting against it, thus locking all the other drawers. With this arrangement alone it is possible to operate on the locking bars simultaneously with two splitters, and by suitable manipulation to obtain more than one article for one coin insertion. This is prevented by the bars 8, 9, which are identical with the set 6, 7 except that they are not connected with the coin-freed mechanism ; a given splitter can thus at all times be advanced through the series 8, 9 for actuation of the series 6, 7, but the other splitters are prevented by the bars 8, 9 from approaching the bars 6, 7 for fraudulent actuation. Lines of balls or rods or combinations thereof may replace the locking bars.
