804,458. Coin-freed vending apparatus. MACHINE MADE SALES PTY., Ltd. Feb. 4, 1957 [Feb. 9, 1956], No. 3772/57. Class 27 A coin-freed vending machine has one or more magazines 13 each having a sliding article-dispensing tray or drawer 22 and locking means for the trays comprises a tubular guide 28 containing balls 25 spaced by rods 26, the balls normally obstructing a taper-ended rod 24 underneath each tray until the balls and spacer rods are released for endwise movement against the action of a spring by the raising of a latch 19 on insertion of a coin or coins, preferably two coins of the same denomination. On withdrawal of a tray, the balls and spacer rods occupy positions preventing the withdrawal of the other trays. The first coin inserted tilts a lever 17 and allows the second coin to tilt a lever 18 that raises the latch 19. The coins fall to a member 36d and withdrawal of a tray causes a lever 36b to tilt the member 36d and tip the coins into a box 23. However, if return of the coins is desired, a button 20 can be pressed in so that a pin 42 locks the tray locking means 28 and then a pin 44 tilts the member 36d to return the coins to an opening 20a. Coin-testing mechanism may be provided. Change giving. A pivoted bar 37 for each tray is tilted by withdrawal of a tray and contacts one or more collars 41 adjusted on sliding bars 36, the operated bar or bars then actuating one or more of a series of coin containers 31 to deliver to an opening 15 a coin of coins totalling the required change.
