Abstract

354,418. Coin-freed article delivery apparatus. SEITZ, P., 12, Philippstrasse, Kreuznach, Germany. May 17, 1930, No. 15221. [Class 27.] Articles stored in piles.-In a coin-controlled electrically operated machine for delivering goods of different kinds or prices after the insertion of coins of the same or different denomination, equal to the price of the goods selected, the articles are stored in magazines 1, Fig. 2, the bottom article from the selected magazine being pushed out by a pivoted weighted ejector 4 on the end of a lever 2, which is rocked by an electromagnet 3. A magazine is selected by rotating a knob on a spindle 18, Fig. 4, to actuate a rack-and-pinion gear 14, 15 and cause a contact finner 12 to move to one of a series of contacts 10, provided on a rail 11 and corresponding to the magazines. The rack carries an indicator 17 showing through a window 16 the article selected and is positioned correctly by a tooth 21 on a spring-controlled lever 20 engaging a star wheel 19 on the spindle 18. The circuit of the ejecting magnet for the magazine is then completed by inserting coins to cause a counterslide 41, Fig. 8, to be raised, this slide having a finger 47 moving over contacts 48 on a rail 49. The machine takes pennies and sixpences inserted in slots 24, 241 respectively, so that if an article costs sixpence or over, a sixpence or six pennies may be used at the purchaser's option. A penny tilts a weighted lever 25 to allow contacts 30, 31 to close and energize a magnet 35 the rocking armature 39 of which has a forked end 42 to engage pins 40 on the slide 41 and raise the slide one step at a time. A sixpence similarly causes the armature 391 of a magnet 351 to raise the counter-slide through six steps. If an article costs ninepence, for example, either nine pennies are inserted, or a sixpence and three pennies in any'order. Instead of a slide, a rocking sector may be employed. The slide 41 is held raised until the article is delivered by a spring catch 43 engaging between a row of pins 40a. The catch is withdrawn by an electromagnet 51, and held retracted by a spring catch 52 until the slide 41 returns to its initial position, when a lug 54 thereon releases the catch 52. The star wheel 19 of the selector is locked as soon as the slide 41 is raised and releases a pin 65, Fig. 4, on a rod 64. This rod is connected to a lever 61, 62 which is then pulled by a spring 63 to engage a projection 62<1> on the catch 20. Returning coins ; insertion of coins in empty apparatus, preventing.-If a magazine becomes empty, a following weight 6, Fig. 2, opens a switch 8 in the circuit of the ejector magnet 3. Another magnet in the circuit is also not energized and fails to withdraw a rocking plate from the lower portion of the coin shoot, this plate serving to deflect the coins out of the shoot to a return tray. The second magnet also actuates a lever for locking the catch 20 of the selector wheel 19. Coins that have been inserted may also be recovered before an article is delivered by pressing a button 55. This actuates a lever 56 to break the delivery circuit at 57 and to rock levers 58 which move a hinged lower portion 59 of the coin shoot and release the catch 43 allowing the slide 41 to drop. The coins in the shoot 59 resting on a rod 27 are returned. Normally when the last coin is inserted to effect delivery, the magnet 51 withdraws the rod 27 and allows the coins to pass to a money box. Coin-slit closing-devices.-When the slide 41 is raised to its topmost position corresponding to the highest priced article, it engages a rod 44 to project slides 45, 45<1> across the coin shoot 24, 24<1>.
