Abstract

394,266. Hand shoe-stitching machine. FIQUET, A. L., 80, Boulevard du Havre, Montigny lÞs Corneilles, Seine-et-Oise, and MOUSSET, A. G., 46, Rue Jeanne d'Arc, St. MaudÚ, Seine, both in France. Jan. 13, 1933, Nos. 1203 and 1204. Convention dates, Jan. 13, 1932, and Jan. 11, 1933. [Class 112.] In a machine for repairing shoes by chain stitching, the needle holder is actuated by a sliding block carried by the head of the machine and driving the needle holder through adjustable stops, the mechanism for actuating the sliding block also actuating the looper, awl feed and presser-foot. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the needle &c. are driven by the rod 10 which is worked to-and-fro through 180‹ by hand. The rod 10 is thus worked about the pivot 14 between the stop 18 and frame 1 causing the pinion 42 to rotate constantly in the same direction through the pinions 39, 40 and toothed wheels 37, 38, which free-wheel in opposite directions. These wheels are geared so that looper, mounted in the upper end of the horn 6 makes two revolutions for each to- and-fro movement of the rod 10. The rod 10 is secured to the sleeve 29 so that as it oscillates, it rises and falls with the sleeve on the threaded nut 22<1>, the end 15 having a sliding fit with the rod 17 to permit this. The downward movement of the sleeve 29 causes the downward thrust of the needle when the sleeve abuts on the head 33<1> of the needle holder, causing the needle 24 to penetrate the work. The return movement of the rod 10, and hence the rise of the sleeve 29, causes the needle to leave the work, when the collar 14 abuts on the stop 34. The stops 33<1>, 34 are adjustable on the needle holder and rod 32 to vary the needle stroke. When the stop 34 has raised the needle holder it comes into contact with a ring 27, which, through a rod pivoted at 26, raises the unit formed by the members 20, 21, 22, to release the presser 20. At the same time, due to rotation of the collar 35 and cam 36 secured on the sleeve 29, the feed spike holder 211 is oscillated to cause the spike 21<11> to engage and feed forward the released work through the length of a stitch. The horn 6 is mounted on the rotating platform 4 carrying the thread supply 8 and wax pot 9. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the reciprocation of the needle is effected by up-and-down movements of a rod 120 driven by the hand-wheel 116 and eccentric 119. The looper is rotated by bevel gears in the horn from the same hand-wheel.
