Abstract
394,225. Vacuum cleaners. KIRBY, J. B., R. F. D. 16 West Richfield, Ohio, U.S.A. Nov. 5, 1932, No. 31299. [Class 8 (i).] A vacuum cleaner comprises a suction nozzle 1 which is vertically adjustable upon the motor and fan casing. In the position shown in Fig. 2, air is drawn through the nozzle to the fan inlet 12 and discharged through the fan inlet 7 to the vertical dust bag 5 which is connected to the container 18 provided with a removable cover 20. The nozzle may be moved vertically so that the port 14 aligns with the port 7 so that air is drawn through the slots 29, port 22 to the fan inlet 12 and discharged to the nozzle 1 which is then used for blowing. A container 24 containing insecticide is arranged so that when the apparatus is used for blowing, the fan suction may be impregnated. The valve 26 which is operated by the push-rod 28 being provided with pockets so that a measured quantity of insecticide is injected at each opening. In a modification, the upper end of the suction nozzle is provided with a ported cylindrical surface contacting with a ported cylindrical surface on the fan so that the particular ports for suction and blowing are aligned by rotation..
