Abstract

394,126. Treating yarns. WILLIAMS, Ltd., J. W. and STOPPARD, A., South Sherwood Street, Nottingham. May 14, 1932, No. 13886. [Class 120 (iii).] Wax or similar solid substance is applied to yarn by a device comprising two rotatable parts, such as rollers, having co-operating surfaces of solid wax or the like, between which the yarn is drawn, at least one of said parts being rotated by means independent of the tractive force of the yarn. A suitable device comprises two blocks of wax 4 carried on a square spindle 5 which is rotatably mounted at 6 and driven by a pulley 13. The yarn passes between the opposed faces of the blocks 4, which are pressed together resiliently by springs 11. In a modification, the yarn is passed between two rollers of wax whose peripheral surfaces are in contact, and one of which is mounted on a driven spindle. The invention is described as applied to a winding machine, and the waxing rollers are then preferably rotated at the same speed as the winding spindle, or slightly slower if cones are being wound. A device is provided to stop the winding machine and the driven roller in the event of the yarn breaking.
