Abstract
323,594. Scragg, S., and Scragg &. Sons, Ltd., E. Nov. 7, 1928. Spindle-driving apparatus.-In combined doubling and spinning machines, as used for doubling yarns such as silk, artificial silk, and silk and cotton or other yarns, wherein the spindles are driven by an endless belt running longitudinally of the machine, the shaft 9 carrying the belt pulley 10 is provided with a bevel wheel 11 which is engaged by one or the other of two bevel wheels 13, 14 on a sleeve 12 slidable on the driving-shaft 7, whereby the direction of rotation of the spindles may be readily reversed. Friction gears may be used instead of bevel gears. The sleeve 12 is provided with a U-shaped slot 15 engaged by a stud 16 on the shaft 7, and is moved by means of a milled head 18 or by a lever movable in a slot or over an indicating arc and, if desired, connected by trip-mechanism with the starting and stopping device of the machine. The shaft 7 may be provided with a hand-wheel so that it turned slightly to facilitate the change-operation. The gear wheels are encased. The Provisional Specification also comprises a handle or handle wheel provided with a pointer for moving the pinions.
