Abstract

The processes described in Specifications 335,906, 335,993, [both in Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], 341,843, 341,930, 357,527, 357,549, 357,595, and 375,334 are modified by using as the coagulating bath a liquid consisting of or containing a large proportion of an ester of a polybasic inorganic acid and an aliphatic or aromatic monohydric or polyhydric alcohol, or a sulphonic acid of an aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon, or an aromatic sulphonic acid containing nitrogren, or a carboxy organo-mineral acid, or strong sulphuric acid containing formaldehyde or pyridine, or sulphuric acid of less than 35 per cent containing and preferably saturated with ammonium bisulphate. Examples of these baths are methyl sulphuric acid, ethyl sulphuric acid, mixtures of methyl or ethyl alcohol with concentrated sulphuric acid, glycerophosphoric acid, glycerosulphuric acid, a mixture of glycerol and sulphuric acid, a mixture of acetaldehyde sulphonic acid and sulphuric acid, benzene sulphonic acid, sulphono diacetic acid, sulpho-acetic acid, a bath of 30 per cent sulphuric acid saturated with ammonium bisulphate, methyl or ethyl sulphonic acid, methionic acid, oxymethyl sulphonic acid, phenol sulphonic acid, a sulphonic acid of mineral oil, diphenyl-amino-disulphonic acid. There may be added to the baths sulphuric acid or other strong mineral acid, or inorganic salts, or boric acid, or organic acids, aldehydes, aniline, pyridine, glycerine, glucose, alcohols. The processes of making artificial threads, films, coatings, dressings and other materials are in other respects similar to the processes described in the Specifications referred to. Specifications 357,121, 357,154, 357,192, 357,526, 362,437, and 368,288 also are referred to.
