Description
Process for the manufacture of sulfonation products from esters The invention relates to a process for the production of detergents, wetting agents and emulsifying agents. Here, in the esterification of fatty acids with polyhydric alcohols under Maintenance of free hydroxyl groups and subsequent sulfo. nation according to the invention proceeded so that monocarboxylic acids of the fatty series with a carbon chain of for example C4 -C9, hereinafter referred to as low molecular weight acids for short, with such polyvalent acids Alcohols are esterified that the number of carbon atoms in the molecule as the end product is at least io. . It is known, esters containing free hydroxyl groups from fatty acids and polyhydric alcohols and also to sulfonate them. However, this has always been based on higher molecular weight fatty acids or fats. So one has z. B. fatty acids from whale, whale oil or the corresponding fatty acids Used paraffin oxidation. Also from the acids of palm kernel oil, oleic acids and use was made of coconut oil. Low molecular weight acids have not been used so far related.
It has now been found that low molecular weight acids can also be used as starting materials taken can be when such polyhydric alcohols for esterification be used that in the end product at least 10 carbon atoms in the molecule are included. It has been found that these substances are excellent washing, Represent wetting and emulsifying agents, are soluble in hard water and are good Have acid resistance.
If, for example, an acid mixture of C.-C.L. is used, a compound of 10 to 12 or 11 to 13 carbon atoms is obtained after esterification with ethylene glycol or glycerol and subsequent sulfonation. However, if an acid mixture of about C5 C9 is present, then pentamethylene glycol, pentapolyglycerol or other polyhydric alcohols with at least 5 carbon atoms must be used. The process is therefore independent of the alcohol used, just as it is independent of the agents used for sulfonation. Concentrated sulfuric acid, chlorosulfonic acid and the like, with or without the addition of dehydrating agents such as acetic anhydride, are equally suitable.
Instead of the alcohols, their derivatives, e.g. B. Chlorhydrins or inner anhvdrine. It is also possible to use sulfonation to carry out simultaneously with the esterification by adding the sulfonating agent at the same time with the alcohol is added to the acid mixture.
Ausführungsbeispiele i. As for the fatty acids to be used, they are particularly suitable the low molecular weight acids involved in the oxidation of hydrocarbons, such as Paraffin, carbohydrate and carbohydrate hydrogenation products and the like, with oxidizing Gases arise and are precipitated from the condensates of the exhaust gases or from the main mass of the acid mixture obtained in the oxidation by fractionated Distillation are obtained. Embodiments i. The starting materials are a mixture of acids, that by distillation of the acid mixture produced by the oxidation of paraffin was obtained, with the proportions between i io to i4o ° at approximately 4 to Boil 6 mm vacuum, and anhydrous glycol.
Das Erzeugnis stellt ein hervorragendes Waschmittel dar. das auch mit anderen Wasch- und tetzmittelii verniisclit werden kann.100 parts of this fatty acid mixture are lenglykol with 45 parts of Ethy esterified in a vacuum at a temperature of about 100 to 14o @, with accelerators, like Zn powder or sulfuric acid, kOiinen are added. After the acid number has reached a value below, it is used with 50 parts of fuming sulfuric acid at a Temperature of about 40 ° sulfonated. The sulfonation mixture is neutralized and, if necessary, evaporated. The product is an excellent detergent that can also be used with other detergents and detergents.
Those involved in the oxidation of carbohydrate products by means of oxidizing gases and with the latter volatile acids with a saponification number of about 420 are used as raw materials. also polyglycerin, which is known on Way. z.
