Abstract

393,384. Envelopes. MEATCHEM, C. A., 39, Rob Lane, Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire. March 5, 1932, No. 6698. [Class 146 (ii).] In an envelope or like container for flat or thin articles and having a single opening, the mouth is shaped to facilitate the insertion of an article by cutting away the portion of the margin which lies towards one side of the centre of the mouth, and cutting away the oppositely disposed portion of the other margin of the mouth, no part of each uncut margin extending upwardly beyond the adjacent sde of the mouth to a greater extent than does a part nearer to the centre of the mouth than to the adjacent side of the envelope. In a construction suitable for gramophone records both margins of the mouth are cut away at the middle to form a thumb opening 12, as shown in the figure, and the front margin is cut away along a line 13, and the rear margin along a line 15, leaving triangular extensions 20, 21. In modifications (a) the edges of the uncut portions of the margins slope upwardly from the corresponding closed side of the envelope towards the centre, and the edges of the cut portions extend perpendicularly to the closed side to facilitate the insertion of a rectangular article, (b) the edges of the uncut portions slope upwardly, and the edges of the cut portions slope downwardly, towards the centre of the envelope, and (c) the edges of. the cut and uncut portions extend perpendicularly to the adjacent closed sides of the envelopes. In these modifications thumb openings are also provided.
