[Classes 18, 66, and 94 (i)] A cardboard box of the kind in which an end closure is effected by means of hinged flaps formed by extensions of the side walls of the box and having a cutter cord located between two of the end closure flaps has the flap or flaps underlying the cutter cord, perforated or cut away over all or part of the area covered by the cord, to provide, when the box is opened, a pouring orifice or orifices, bounded by the edges of the flap or flaps at the perforated or cut-away portions, or by the edge and the adjacent side of the box. The free edge of the flap 3 has a strip the width of the tape 5 used as the cutter cord cut away at 4 over all or part of the length of the gap between flaps 1 and 2. The flap 6 is cut, scored, or otherwise weakened for a short distance at 7, to ensure the tear in the flap starting at the right place and is secured by adhesive both to the tape and to the flap 3. If desired, the cut may be continued as a scoring or partial cut along the length of the flap and the hinge of the flap 6 may be similarly scored or cut. When the flaps 1, 2 overlap, or when the gap between them is not sufficient, that part of one or both of the flaps which would underlie the-free edge of the flap 3 may be cut away wholly, or for an amount less than the length of the flap. In a modification, holes 10 replace the cut away portion and the holes and cutter cord are located centrally of the flap 3. In this case, the flap 6 may be scored or perforated along both edges of the cord. In either embodiment, one or more holes may be arranged in one or more rows over the whole or part of that area of the flap 3 covered by the cord. Specification 404,026 is referred to.
