[Class 17 (i).] In a sole - cementing press for shoe making and repairing comprising a base plate and a substantially flat, hollow, liquid-containing pad which supports the shoe under pressure, the pad is made of elastic material, such as rubber, of substantial thickness and the top wall thereof is adapted upon slight depression to engage the bottom wall so that the counter pressure is exerted by the pad material while the liquid forces up the edges of the sole. The press, which is shown as a one-pair press, comprises a base plate 10 having recesses 11 therein to receive the hollow pads 12 ; it may either be used alone or mounted on one side of a square frame with three others. A yoke 16 engages the base plate 10 by lugs 17 and carries clamping screws 18 which press down the lasts 19. The pads 12 are filled with liquid, such as water, through plug holes 22 and the sides 27 are tapered to fit tightly in the recesses 11. A groove 25 is also provided to engage a bead 26 on the base plate and a stud 29 is forced into a hole 30 in the plate. The pad is moulded in one piece from rubber and the walls 31, 33 are thicker than the intervening space. A tongue 32 engages the instep of the shoe. Openings 35 are formed on the base plate 10 and fracture plates 36 are supported therein on shoulders 38. Upon excessive pressure the plates 36 break along the kerfs 37, the broken parts being retained by lugs 39. A coiled torsion spring 40 which is slidably mounted in a bearing 42 on the last 19 is adapted to hold down the heel of the shoe by means of the foot 44 when pressure is applied. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a last, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), which has an electrical heating element 45 situated in a recess in the sole. The last is of wood and the element 45 is contained in an aluminium casing 49. A time control unit is provided for regulating the current. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
