Abstract

393,151. Combination-lock stop-cocks. HEIMEIER, T., 15, Erwitterstrasse, Lippstadt, Westphalia, Germany. Sept. 26, 1932, No. 26682. [Class 135.] A combination stop cock for preventing unauthorized access to liquid (petrol) or gas supplies comprises two (or more) concentrically nested rotary cocks 5, 6 having their through passages out of register until aligned by a common rotary cap 9 operable in opposite directions in succession. To open the cock the cap 9 is first rotated idly until an internal projection 11 strikes a projection 12 of the inner cock 6 which is thereby turned and with it the outer cock sleeve 5, by reason of a spring-pressed driving-pin 16 engaging the end of a tapered groove 15 in the outer sleeve ; this turning action continues until the passage parts 51, 5<11> are in register with the casing parts 4, 4<1>. This first position is indicated by a pointer 17 on dial markings at 18. During this preliminary movement the teeth of a ring 13 on the outer sleeve slip past a pawl 14. The cap 9 is now rotated idly in the opposite direction until the projection 11 strikes the projection 12 of the inner cock 6 on the reverse side, whereupon the inner cock is rotated until its passage 61 is in register with the alreadyaligned passages 4, 41, 5, and 51 in which position the fluid flow is obtained. This second position is also known by means of the pointer 17 and prearranged markings on the dial 18. During the second part of the opening movement the pin 16 slips freely out of the tapered slot 15, whilst the pawl 14 engaging the teeth of the ring 13 prevents the backward movement of the outer sleeve 5 from its pre-set position. Additional dummy rings with numbers or other markings may be mounted on the cap 9 serving merely to mislead further any unauthorized persons.
