Abstract
422,494. Preventing unauthorized starting. ADELSOHN, A. H., 10, Grevturegatan, Stockholm. July 24, 1933, Nos. 20850 and 20851. Convention dates, Oct. 13, 1932 and Nov. 11, 1932. [Class 7 (ii)] [See also Group XXIX] In a device for preventing theft of motor cars, motor-cycles, motor-boats, &c. driven by internal-combustion engines, a spring-pressed needle valve, positioned in the fuel conduit to the engine and adapted to be operated by a cam actuated by a rotary cylinder lock, the cam being detachably secured or connected to or made integral with the end of the cylinder, is held in the open or open and closed positions by a recess or recesses provided in the cam. Fuel flowing from a tank through a nipple 15 is arrested by a spring pressed valve 7, in a wall. 5 dividing the device into two parts, until an extension 13 of the valve stem 8 is displaced by a cam 26, the shaft 25 of which is disposed at right angles to the valve stem and is connected to the rotating sleeve 22 of a rotary cylinder lock. The connection is made by a wedge-shaped projection on the shaft engaging a corresponding slot in the sleeve and prevents re-engagement of the shaft with the sleeve if either has received a half turn relative to the other. The sleeve is rotated by a key 31 to open the valve 7, the key being then non-removable and the valve stem snaps into small recesses in the cam at both the open and closed positions. The valve may be disposed in an apertured casing screwed into the wall. The valve chamber may be a recess in the carburetter body between the float chamber &c. and the fuel nozzles, the fuel flowing into an apertured casing, screwed into the recess and provided on its end wall with a guide hole for the stem 8, and out through a passage in a connecting member in which the valve seat is formed and which screws into the outer part of the recess ; the lock housing is integral with or secured to the body at right angles to the valve axis. As shown in Fig. 7, the valve chamber 2 screws into the housing 21 for the lock and a face cam 63 on the end of the sleeve 22 of the lock displaces the valve, the cam acting through a two part stem 62 the outer section of which is soldered to the end plate 65 of a tombac &c. bellows 64 adapted to isolate the. valve from the lock housing. The space in the bellows may communicate with the float chamber, the extension of the bellows on closing the valve then sucking the fuel out of the float chamber and the opening of the valve restoring it thereto. In this form, a circumferential cam 69 may simultaneously control the ignition circuit 70 through a spring pressed button 68. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that to prevent removal of the device, rods 77, Fig. 9 (Cancelled), secured to the bellows 64 may, when the valve is closed, engage in sockets in a union nut 76 securing the fuel inlet pipe 74 to the device, and prevent rotation of the nut, and the fuel outlet may be similarly protected. Alternatively, the rods may engage in slots and have threaded edges which, in the closed position, fail to register with the threads on the nut and prevent its rotation. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
