The housing lt is exteriorly threaded on its inner end to permit a milled locking nut 16 to be screwed tightly thereon securely fastening the housing 14 to the disc or cap 11. The housing 1% preferably has a rotatable post 17 mounted eccentrically on its inner face. The post 17 has a shoulder 18 and a reduced portion 19 through which is tapped a pin 20. Between the shoulder 18 and the pin 20 is mounted a collar 21. The collar 21 preferably has a radially extending pin 22. Attached to the pin 22 is one end of a helical spring 23 which is mounted on the post 17,
' the other end of said spring being attached to a small lug 24- on the inner face of the housing 14 beside the post 17. The collar 2l also preferably has ears 21 which 'en gage the pin 20 to prevent the helical spring 23 from unwinding, but at the same time permitting the pin 22 to be oscillated on the post 17 The pin 22 engages and actuates a slide 25. the manifold the spring pin 7 is withdrawn from the notch 28 in the slide 25 at which time the helical spring 23 forces the slide to locked position completely covering the inlet aperture of the manifold. The slide when in closed position abuts against the member 30 so that the slide cannot be forced past the aperture. The valve is then i in closed locked position and effectually prevents the unauthorized use of the motor or vehicle. b-en it is desired to again use the motor the person having a key fitting the particular lock of the valve will insert the key into the lock and rotate the post 17 and slide 25 away from the intake opening.

In Figs.=7 and 8, I have shown a modification of my invention. which is of value in that the valve is rendered even more in accessible than any construction previously described. In this form of locking valve, I preferably employ intake manifold X cast witha housing 31 thereon, as shown in Fig. 8. The housing 31 is similar in all the respects to the casing 1 except that it is' cast integral with the manifold. A boss 6 is provided to carry the spring releasing pin 7, and the disk 11, carrying lock housing 1%, locking nut 16, post 17, spring 23, collar21, arm 26, stop 30, and the other parts of the locking mechanism are the same as before described.
hile I haveillustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect. this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the construction set forth,
and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I but desire to avail myself of such variations claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
1. A device of the character described comprising a housing interposed in a conduit and having a passage therethrough; said housing having one side open; a valve mounted in said housing adapted to open and close said passage; a closure for the open side of said housing carrying mechanism normally urging said valve to closed position; means for limiting the closing movement of said valve, said limiting means being connected to said closure and to the far side of said housing; means for retaining said valve in position against said urging means; means for releasing said valve from said retaining means; and locking mechanism for returning said valve to retracted position. 3. A device of the character described comprising a valve casing having one end open; a closure for/said casing, there being a threaded loclcbarrel extending through said cap; a member threaded on said barrel to hold same in position; and means for preventing reverse rotation of said member on said barrel.

5. A device of the character described comprising a valve casing having one side open: a closure for said open side a look barrel extending through said 'cap andhav-i ing a member threaded thereonto hold same in position; and a securing member having a. forked portion straddling said threaded member to prevent-reverse rotation thereof,
the opposite end of said securing member being fastenedto the far side of said casing. 6. A device of the character described comprising a valve casing having one side open; a closure for said valve casing; 11, valve mounted in said casing, means normally urging said valve to closed position; means secured to said closure and extending across and'being secured to the far side of said casing and serving as a stop for said valve; and locking mechanism for returning saidvalve toretracted position.
In a device of the character described comprising a casting having ports therein open at onefside; a cast flanged disc having a bore and a counter bore; a lock housing extending through said bore; a flange on said lock housing engaging said counter bore; threads on the inner end otsaid lock housing; a locking nut engaging said threads'to lock the housing to said disc; a rotatable post on said housing; a shoulder and a'reduced portion on said post; a pin tapped through the reduced portion of said post; a. collar mounted between said shoulder and said pin; an arm on said collar;ears on said collar engaging said pin to prevent rotati-on but permitoscillation of said collar; a helical spring mounted on said post and attached. to the arm on the collar and to a lug on the lock housing a slide operable by said arm to close the port therein, said helical spring normally urging the arm and. slide to closed position and a stop member adjacent said port to limit the movement of said slide one end of the said member being secured to the disc the other end or said threads to lock the housing to said disc; a
rotatable post on said housin a shoulder and a reduced portion on said post; a pin tapped through the reduced portion of said post; acollar mounted between said shoulder and said pin; an arm on said collar; ears on said collar engaging saidpin to prevent rotation but permit oscillation of said collar; a helical spring mounted on said post and attached to. the arm on the collar and to a lug on the lock housing, a slide operable by said arm to close the port therein; said helical spring normallv urging the arm and slide to closed position, and a stop for said slide adjacent the'port having a forked end adapted to be secured to thcdisc ad acent to and engaging said locking nut to-prevent rotation-thereof,- and the opposite end of said stop being secured tofthe opposite Wall substantially described. In combination with an intake manifold having a housing cast integral therewith and open at one side; a cast flanged disc for closing said opening and having a bore and a counter bore; a lock housing extending through said bore; a flange on said lock housing engaging said counter bore; hreads on the inner end of said lock housing; a. locking nut engaging said threads to lock the housing to said disc; a rotatable post on said housing; a shoulder and a reduced portion on said post; a pin tapped through the reduced portion of said post; a collar mounted between said shoulder and said pin; an arm on said collar; ears on said collar engaging said pin to prevent rotation but permit oscillation of said collar; a helical spring mounted on said post and attached to the arm on the collar and to a lug on the loci; housing, a slide operable by said arm to close the port therein, said helical spring normally urging the arm and slide to closed position, and a stop for said slide adjacent the port having a forked end adapted to be secured to the disc adjacent to and engaging said locking nut to prevent rotation thereof, and the opposite end of said stop being secured to the opposite wall, substantially as described.

comprising a valve casing having an open side; a closure member for said open side; and means secured to said closure member and extending across and being secured to the opposite inner wall or" said casing for holding said closure member in position.

A device of the character described comprising a valve casing having anopen side; a closure member for said open side; and means secured to said closure member and extending across, and being secured to the opposite inner wall of said casing for holding said closure member in position, said means being offset so as to lie against the wall of said casing.

A device or the character described comprising a valve casing having one side 7 open; a closure for said open side; a valve mounted in said casing; means normally urging said valve to closed position; and means secured to said closure, and extending across said casing and being secured to the far side thereof said means serving as a stop for said valve.

A device of the character described comprising a valve casing having a passage therethrough; a valve mounted in said casing adapted to open and close said passa e; key operable means extending into said casing; an operative connection between said valve and said key operable means, which connection permits play between said hey operable means and said valve; means normally urging said valve to closed position; and means for engaging said valve when turned to open position;

A device of the character described comprising a valve casing having apassage therethrough; avalve mounted in said casing adapted to open and-close said passage; key operable means extending into said cas ing, there being a post on said means having a reduced portion providing a shoulder and a pin extending through said reduced portion; a collar mountedbetween said shoulder and said pin, said collar having ears engaging said pin; and an arm on said collar for operating said valve.
15.,A. device of the character described comprising a valve casing having a passage therethrough; a valve mounted in said casing adapted to-open and close said passage; key operable means e xtending into said casing, there being a post on said means having a reduced portion providing a shoulder and a pin extending through said reduced portion; a collar mounted between said shoulder and said pin, said 'collar having ears engaging said pin and an arm on said collar for operating said valve; means for normally urging said valve to closed position; means for engaging said valve for holding the same in open position; and means for reeasing said holding means.
16. A device of the character described comprising a valve casing having a passage therethrough; a valve mounted in said casing adapted to open and close said passage;
lrey operable means extending into said casing; a rotatable post mounted on said hey operable means; a collar mounted for oscillation onsaid post; said collar having an arm operatively connected with said valve; and a spring connected to said keyoperable means and to said collar for normally holding said valve in closed position. i
