Abstract

393,101. Making screw bolts &c. MULKA, F., 192, Avenue Daumesnil, Paris. July 4, 1932, No. 18831. [Classes 83 (ii), 83 (iii), and 83 (iv).] Rods or tubes are rolled between tapering platens, Fig. 8, or corresponding die rolls to form indentations and swellings thereon as in Fig. 1 which can be used to form articles, e.g. screws, Fig. 2. Figs. 9 and 10 show a pair of platens, the part d of which also rolls hexagonal heads for the screws. Fig. 12 shows a section of a machine of which the rod 20 is fed between the platens 16, 17, the bar being heated in an insulated muffle furnace 21 by gas jets 22 or electricity. Finishing platens 18, 19 are also provided. The platens are oscillated by a crank shaft which also feeds the bar step-by-step by cam 9 and rack 11 and pivoted segment 12 the point of which engages the feed slide 14 of resilient gripping material and so moves the bar in after each working stroke of the platens. Other material capable of being rolled may be used. The platens may produce grooves, gashes, feathers, hexagonal heads, &c. When a tube is being rolled it is filled temporarily with material. Screwing.-Tools for cutting the screw thread or heads may be combined with the machine.
