Abstract

A cork-rubber body having a high coefficient of friction comprises sponge rubber having cork particles distributed therethrough, and having the surface cut or ground to expose some of the cork particles. In an example a composition comprises 320 parts by weight of pale crepe rubber, 160 parts of cork, 40 parts of bicarbonate of soda, and sulphur, softeners, accelerator and other compounding ingredients; the composition is placed in a mould and vulcanized at 285 DEG F. for 20-30 minutes; after moulding the surface is exposed by cutting or grinding.
