Abstract

391,361. Fire-estinguishing grenades. PUCHNER, E., 13, Villenstrasse, Wetzelsdorf, Styria, Austria. Aug. 30, 1932, No. 24206. [Class 47 (ii).] In a grenade of the kind in which extinguishing medium is scattered by an explosive charge, the charge 15 is embedded in a twopart tube 11, 12 of celluloid or other inflammable material. The tube has extensions 14 extending through slots in metal end caps 7, 8 to facilitate ignition of the tube and consequent explosion of the charge. The extinguishing medium, such as sodium bicarbonate or carbon tetrachloride, is housed in an annular container 16 of paper or other material which is readily carbonized. The end caps 7, 8 are drawn together by a nut 6 and screwed rod 4, the latter being fixed to a socket 3 for a handle 1. The container 16 is protected by loose leaves 10 of pasteboard, which are sprung into grooves in the end caps and held together by a ring 18. The end cap 8 is formed with a sleeve 9 extending within the tube part 12 in order to conduct heat thereto. The grenade may be thrown by hand, or by a spring projecting device.
