Abstract
390,373. Pulp for making glazed paper. VADASZ A., 8, Oldenburgg, Inzersdorf, near Vienna. July 4, 1932, No. 18861. [Class 96.] To paper pulp in the Hollander is added material in a state of fine subdivision resulting from reaction of mixtures of saponified fatty acids, e.g. stearic acid and coco-nut oil acid, with salts of the alkaline earths, e.g. magnesium, or mixtures, e.g. magnesium and barium salts, to give gloss, whiteness, &c. to the paper. Salts of heavy metals, e.g. of zinc, may be added to aid in fixing the material to the fibre. In an example 5 parts of stearin and 6 of coco-nut oil are saponified with 8-10 parts of caustic soda and treated with 2 parts of barium chloride and 1 of magnesium chloride in solution, alkaline silicates may also be added.
