Abstract

538,581. Foaming agents ; acids from waste sulphate lye. EDWARDS, K. B. July 29, 1940, No. 12303. [Classes 2 (iii) and 15 (ii)] Waste aqueous liquor obtained in the sulphate process of making paper after separation of tallol soap is treated so as to obtain a product having wetting and foaming properties by adding a mineral acid or acid salt to the clarified liquor and. separating the resulting precipitate. In an example, waste sulphate lye separated from tallol soap is filtered and treated with sulphuric acid. After boiling, the precipitate is easily filtered and dried. The product may be freed from fatty and resin acids by extraction with volatile solvents such as ether and petroleum distillates.
